This paper outlines the issues that create a gap between the education of architects in the United States and the desire of the profession for highly trained interns. It presents some of the issues that have made the Intern Development Program problematical and ready for changes. In response, I propose an educational initiative that could expand the training of interns and connect practice to the academy via well-structured courses taught by Practitioner/Educators.
