The Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (LAEP) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Landscape and Eco-Technology. This position seeks an emerging scholar, educator, and/or practitioner who will advance contemporary landscape architecture through innovative research, creative practice, teaching, and public engagement. The successful candidate will contribute to Berkeley’s long-standing tradition of interdisciplinary environmental design while addressing critical challenges such as climate adaptation, ecological resilience, sustainable infrastructure, and landscape performance.

The department is particularly interested in candidates whose work integrates ecological systems with design and technology. Research and practice may focus on material innovation, hydrologic and vegetated systems, topography, construction, fabrication, digital modeling, prototyping, or built work. Berkeley recognizes scholarship in multiple forms, including academic research, applied research, creative practice, and professional projects that contribute to the advancement of landscape architecture. The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized program of research or creative activity while collaborating across disciplines such as engineering, environmental science, public health, law, and environmental policy.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate design studios, lecture courses, seminars, advising, and instruction in topography, materials, construction, and Eco-Technology. Faculty members are expected to mentor students, develop innovative pedagogical approaches, and contribute to curriculum development and shared governance within the department and the university. The position also includes professional and university service consistent with expectations for Senate faculty.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree at the time of application, with preferred qualifications including graduate education in landscape architecture or a related discipline and/or professional licensure.
