This paper argues that we cannot sincerely think about solving issues of adequate, affordable, and equitable housing without reframing, rethinking, and eventually fixing the pervasive concept of capitalist property that fosters housing as an asset rather than as a home. We must think the unthinkable. To do this, the paper identifies utopian thinking as an important catalyst by building on the utopian tradition of simultaneously imagining new societies and places for real change. How can we repair the broken links between housing and home, as well as housing and the common good? How can we think of alternatives that can fix housing property towards more inclusive and non-speculative models?
